Media for Education, Empowerment & Social Change.
Reel Lives is an education and advocacy program that gives a platform to young people, living on the fringes of society, who are often spoken about, but rarely heard from.
Our youth-media programming trains marginalized youth in “hard” skills in professional filmmaking techniques, including pre-production, cinematography, and non-linear digital editing.
Each Reel Lives participant shoots and edits a short (8-12 min) documentary film around a personal, human-rights-related narrative, developing “soft” skills in critical thinking, self confidence, and improved socialization.
Reel Lives’ experienced team of educators create tools for educators and facilitate workshops around our youth-created films to promote education and awareness around critical human rights issues. The goals of these educational tools, exploring everything from LGBTQ rights to climate change, are to encourage a cycle of awareness, advocacy and action.
