My Film: SEGUNDO HOGAR
“Dancing is my passion. I am determined to follow my dreams even if my family is unable to understand.”Hosbel - Reel Lives
My grandparent’s house has become the main reason for the unification of my family. We are one of the Dominican families to immigrate to the United States with the hope to progress in life. For many years my family was split into two different worlds. Half of my family members were here in the United States, while the others remained in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
While we came with the intention of having more opportunities and progressing, there have also been some obstacles in terms of how we interpret opportunity and progress. I love to dance. Dancing is a huge part of my culture; every family event and holiday is filled with music and dancing from my country. In middle school I discovered other types of dance – ballet, tap, modern – and I fell in love. I attend Talent Unlimited HS now and am a dance major. Even though dancing is my passion and my love, and a huge part of my culture, my family does not understand why I am pursuing dance in its different forms.
