Growing up in New York City, it was always easier to fit in with my friends by neglecting my Albanian roots and replacing it with all things American.
My parents, who moved to the United States from Kosovo in the early 90s, have done a good job teaching me what I know about the Albanian culture.
However, despite the fact that I speak Albanian to my family and eat Albanian food at home quite frequently, I somehow feel disconnected. Now more than ever, I feel the need to connect to the Albanian culture, especially because Kosovo is finally independent.
My Film: ALBINGLISH
“As an immigrant, feeling connected to my home country wasn’t as difficult as I thought it was going to be.”Tringa - Reel Lives
With over 200,000 Albanian Americans in the U.S., there are many places that are influenced by the Albanian culture- especially in New York City, home to many immigrants. This film will show my exciting journey of relating to the Albanian culture in my adopted city, by going to Albanian communities, along with making my first Albanian dish.
