I was too young to really know what was happening on September 11, 2001, but I have seen the impact of that event on the world, and my community.
I am a New Yorker, an American, and a Muslim, and how I perceive all of those things were changed on that day.
My family is Senegalese, but I was born and raised in New York City. I have come-of-age is in a post 9/11 world, and living as a Muslim-American, in New York City, has been challenging. But, it is a microcosm of what is happening around the world, with so much ignorance and xenophobia on all sides of the new “clash of civilizations”
My Film: Sacred Ground
How do we move on from September 11th as a city and a nation?MARIEME-Reel Lives

The building of the Downtown Islamic Center has become a focal point for this anger and hatred. My film explores this anger, and the effects of it.
